Requirements to run Chinese Practice:

• Microsoft Windows XP
• Chinese font SimSun (you have it if you installed Asian languages support. If not, install it from your Windows or MS Office installation disc) or any GB encoded font (select Options | Preferences | Fonts, click Force hanzi font and select your font).
• Chinese Input Method Editor (IME) if you want to create your own lessons (it's included in Windows XP installation)
• For the text-to-speech synthesis to work, you will need Microsoft voice engine (you have it if you installed Asian languages support. If not, install it from your Windows installation disc or you can download it here (1.9 MB)

English-Chinese dictionary - traditional characters

Here you can download CEDICT dictionary with traditional characters (version from 11/3/2007, 41079 entries). Unpack the file into Dict subfolder under your ChP folder. Note: you need ChP version 3.2 or higher.

German-Chinese dictionary

Here you can download German-Chinese dictionary HanDeDict (Copyright Freies Chinesisch-Deutsches Woerterbuch HanDeDict) - scroll down the page to find dictionary file in ChP format and download it into Dict subfolder under your ChP folder.

Practical Audio Visual Chinese vol. I

Textbook developed by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan and used by many Mandarin learning centers in Taiwan. Uses only traditional characters. You can download vocabulary from 25 lesons of PAVC on the site of Phrasier, flashcard program written in Java.

• If you want to run ChP on a computer where you can't install programs, download zip file (2,4 MB) containing program file, demo English lesson, pinyin font and dictionary. Unzip the file into your Documents folder, install font Times Special Characters without copying it into your Fonts folder and run file chpractice.exe.
  
  
• Font Times Special Characters needed to display pin yin; it's included in the Setup so you don't have to download it separately unless you have problems displaying pin yin accented characters - in this case you'll have to install the font manually
  
  
• Template chpractice.dot for inserting pin yin characters in Microsoft Word - it is NOT included in Setup.
  Download, copy into your Word templates folder (to find it, open Word and select Tools | Options | Location of files | User templates), then attach (Tools | Templates and add-ons | Attach or Add) and finally show the Chinese Practice toolbar (View | Toolbars).
  
  
• Blank sheets in PDF format for practising chinese characters, 400 characters per page: size 8x8 mm, size 9x9 mm.
